What do you do when your body desperately needs a little TLC but you have zero time to hit the spa? Easy! Just turn your home into the spa with this simple three-ingredient DIY exfoliating coffee scrub made with common kitchen pantry items: coffee ground, virgin coconut oil and brown sugar. 

This coffee body scrub not only helps to revitalise your skin by gently exfoliating and removing dead skin cells, but it also improves your blood circulation and may even minimise the appearance of cellulite all while keeping your skin nourished, supple and soft.


The Importance of Exfoliating

Your body naturally sheds hundreds of thousands of dead skin cells every day in order to make way for fresher, younger skin. In order to help speed up the process, you can add exfoliation to your beauty routine. Gently exfoliating with a body scrub or loofah is the best way to remove dead skins cells, unclog pores, remove unwanted dirt and oil and keep skin supple. Properly exfoliated skin also allows for a smoother shave and is more capable of soaking up essential moisture from your favourite beauty products.


How Often to Exfoliate

Many experts recommend exfoliating your face and body two to three times a week for maximum benefits. For those with sensitive skin, one to two times a week is recommended to avoid skin irritation. 


How to Make a 3-Ingredient DIY Coffee Body Scrub

Just as the title suggests, you only need three ingredients for this DIY coffee scrub: coffee (obviously!), brown sugar and coconut oil. Before your shower, mix everything together and slather it onto your skin, gently exfoliating from head to toe. If you need a little extra hydration, let the scrub sit for a couple of minutes before rinsing off. Voila - refreshed and revitalised skin! 

This DIY coffee body scrub is especially great for treating dry or dull. The caffeine in the coffee acts as a stimulant and helps increase blood flow throughout your body. And coffee’s anti-inflammatory properties may even be beneficial in calming inflamed or breakout-prone skin. The addition of antioxidant-rich coconut oil ensures you’re getting a heavy dose of moisture! Coconut oil has even been shown to help alleviate symptoms of certain skin disorders like psoriasis and eczema. However, it’s important to note that exfoliation may further irritate skin disorders, so be extra gentle on affected areas. 

Ingredients for DIY Coffee Body Scrub 

1/2 cup coffee grounds 

1/4 cup granulated brown sugar 

1/4 cup virgin coconut oil (in a liquid state) 

Instructions for Making a DIY Coffee Body Scrub

All you have to do is mix coffee grounds, brown sugar and coconut oil together thoroughly - so simple, right?! Massage the body scrub gently - in a circular motion - onto your skin and then rinse it off. For an extra boost of moisture, leave the scrub on for three to five minutes to let your skin drink up the coconut oil. 

Store any leftover body scrub in a mason jar in the fridge for up to two weeks.
