A very common problem is dry hair, which can easily be treated. If you have dry hair, it usually means your hair is being stripped of its natural oils, something you definitely don't want happening. Read on to find out how this happens and most importantly, how to fix it.

Unsuitable Shampoo

With so many different types of shampoos in the market, it truly is a task trying to fit your perfect hair fit. Most shampoos have a drying quality to them, which is why it’s crucial to read through and decide what your hair type is.

Fix it: Make it a point to not use too much shampoo and the focus should be on your scalp not so much your hair itself. And give your hair a break in between shampoo days as the key is to remove dirt and excess oil, not to strip off the good oils that keep your hair moisturised and healthy.

Applying Heat

Styling hair is a must-do for most people. Whether it's just to blow dry after a wash, or to add a little something extra to your look like straightening or curling, these methods require heat. When too much heat is in contact with hair over long periods of time, chances are it will cause it to dry out and that's when the damage starts.

Fix it: To avoid this from happening, make sure the tools used are at a reasonable heat level. Use products that can help with the styling to make the process faster and reduces your hair’s exposure to heat. You should also use heat protector products to minimise damage.

Too Many Treatments

We totally get that it’s fun to try out so many different products and treatments for your hair, but be mindful of what you put in it. Too much of a good thing, can be a bad thing too. Getting too many things done can cause major damage resulting in hair that is brittle and prone to breakage.

Fix it: Make it a point to practice moderation and pamper your hair only on occasions. Try using natural remedies such as coconut oil to treat your hair and scalp - natural and organic with many benefits.

Environmental Conditions

This is completely out of our control and living in a tropical climate has its disadvantages! With too much exposure to the sun's harmful rays, you can cause your hair to dry up as it gets dehydrated faster. Add on other activities to beat the heat such as water sports and swimming, your hair will go through so many different conditions and none of which works in its favour.

Fix it: Do it some good and wear a protective swim cap when swimming or a hat when out for too long. Just as you may protect your skin from the environment, do the same for your hair.

If you’ve been guilty of neglecting your crowning glory, it’s not too late to start now. Just follow the tips given above and your hair will thank you for it.
