Exciting news! This month at an exclusive event in KL - the team here at PurelyB launched an even more powerful version of our popular traditional Asian superfood blend, Pegaga by PurelyB, now with pure green apples and dates for a naturally delicious taste that everyone can enjoy.
Held at Damai Wellness Studio in KL, attendees experienced an immersive and interactive afternoon focused around the amazing health benefits of Pegaga (gotu kola), turmeric leaf, papaya leaf and green apples and dates combined - and why the latest version of this ancient remedy is even more powerful than the last.
Pegaga, also known as Gotu Kola or Centella Asiatica, has been used effectively for centuries in Asia to enhance, soothe, strengthen and cleanse the body for optimal health and beauty. However, what was once a powerful traditional herb used for medicinal purposes in villages throughout Southeast Asia eventually became almost unknown to the modern generation, lost amongst western health influences and trends. Now, we’re leading the charge to connect the younger generation back to their traditional roots by bringing a game-changing blend of adaptogenic Asian herbs to the forefront of the wellness world with this brand new formula. With both proven science and centuries of uses in ancient tradition, there’s no denying the benefits of these herbs, especially when combined.
“Pegaga by PurelyB” blend of 3 of nature’s most powerful herbs: pegaga (gotu kola), turmeric leaf and papaya leaf
PurelyB’s valued partners include Dr. Gerard Bodeker and a renowned bidan (midwife) and local traditional herbalist, Hameedah Hamid (Kak Ida), whose ancient herbal remedies have helped many women heal their bodies from the inside out, particularly after pregnancy. Together with Dr. Bodeker and Ms. Hamid, PurelyB is making these ancient remedies available for consumers to easily enjoy.

After a quick welcome from PurelyB co-founders, Jesrina Arshad and Stephanie Looi, guests were able to sample the new Pegaga by PurelyB product and hear from Harvard-educated Oxbridge medical science professor Dr. Gerard Bodeker, editor-in-chief of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Atlas on Traditional and Complementary Medicine. “If you want to put the three most powerful leaves of the tropics together that you can consume and benefit from, absolutely top of the list would be Pegaga (Gotu Kola), turmeric leaf, and papaya leaf,” stated Bodeker. “These are real power foods.”
“Our Pegaga by Purely B formulation is unlike anything else on the market right now,” says Jesrina Arshad, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer at PurelyB, “The natural blend of herbs - pegaga (Gotu Kola), turmeric and papaya leaf, and now pure green apples and dates - are a unique blend of medicinal herbs and fruits - a powerful healing remedy used by centuries by our ancestors to cleanse the body, optimise health, enhance skin, beauty, digestion and brain function. We’re excited to bring this ancient recipe to the younger generation in an easy-to-consume way, really inspire them to go back to their Asian roots and experience the positive changes these herbs can bring to their health and well-being.”
Following, attendees got to meet and hear inspiring stories from women that have experienced the transformative properties of Pegaga by PurelyB. “I’ve always felt lethargic and tired easily due to my poor health conditions,” confessed Stracey, mother of two. “After consuming this traditional Pegaga-papaya-turmeric herbal blend by Purely I feel nourished, energetic and was even able to lose the weight I gained from my pregnancy. It really helped my body recuperate from the inside out.”
Wrapping up the event with a ‘Traditional Asian Superfoods Recipe’ workshop demo, guests had the opportunity to learn and try different ways to enjoy the Pegaga by PurelyB herbal blend, including an all-natural rice dish called Nasi Kerabu made with Pegaga (Gotu Kola), raw chocolate ‘pegaga’ brownies, nourishing juices and smoothies. Guests even got to make their own Pegaga juice or smoothie recipes, a crowd favorite!
Guests also gained inspiration and insight into the social mission behind PurelyB’s pegaga products in improving the livelihoods of struggling, marginalised women communities by employing them in the culitvation and production of our herbs on our farm in Naratiwat, Thailand. “Our herbs have been a part of these women’s traditions for many generations,” says Arshad, “What better way to produce these herbs than by working directly with the women that know them best - and have relied on them for many years.”
