8 Healthy Cafes to Plan Your Next Meeting at in KL

15 November 2017

The nature of my job means that no day is the same. Between meetings, clients, workouts (I’m an avid gym hopper when my schedule permits it!) and food, I find myself constantly on the move. This means that more often than not I am out for a full day, so finding places for meetings and eating breakfast and lunch is pretty key, and I hate having to resort to chain cafes and restaurants, or unappetizing food. Thankfully the burgeoning healthy food scene has made this once ‘chore’ a bit of a luxury, and there are increasing spots to choose from in every city.

With so many cafes on my list of favourites, I’ll be breaking it down into two parts. In Part 1 I’ll take you through my go-to healthy places in KL that I go to for meetings or just to work from for a couple hours between appointments. Part 2 next month, I hit up our neighbours in Singapore - stay tuned!

1. Real Food, 1MK - Originating from Singapore, it was a pleasant surprise to find their one KL outlet at the incredibly convenient 1MK in the heart of Mont Kiara. A regular spot for many a wellness entrepreneurs it has a perfect set-up for working and meetings with great food in between. My favourites are the Potato and Lentil Salad, and their flower teas.

2. Common Man, TTDI - another outlet hailing from our friends in Singapore, entering into Common Man in TTDI is like walking into a slightly different world. The decor and service is top notch and the menu, the same as in Singapore, is mouth watering. A true treat for KL-ites. My favourite is the Egg White with Kale and Parmesan, and super tasty gluten free toast!

3. Urbean, Avenue K - a popular spot for the more health conscious in the city. Simple and to the point, this cafe is a great place to be tucked away working or having a meeting within the KLCC area.

4. Fittie Sense, Bangsar - A perfect hideaway from the busy streets of Bangsar, this cafe offers a fantastic light space with an incredible menu and great service. Favourites include the Air Fried Paprika Sweet Potato Fries with a Yoghurt & Lime Sauce, Beef Kofta, Vegan Green Thai Curry, all the salads, and their homemade kombucha. Welcoming to those working, give this place a go next to host meetings - with their broad menu, there really is something for everyone!

5. Rubberduck, Plaza Damas - almost always packed to the brim, Rubberduck has a great energy and vibe that will serve as a good ‘pick me up’ - and that’s before the food!  The poke bowl is a firm favourite but there is plenty else on offer from roast chicken to tacos. With a bonus of the Aloha Cycle Studio next door you could triple your winnings with spin class, meetings and yummy food.

6. Huckleberry, Plaza Damansara - having placed itself firmly on the healthy cafe lists in KL, it is a popular spot for coffees, lunches, meetings and usually a few laptops. Salads and their version of smashed avocado are winners for me, as well as a gorgeous ginger lemongrass tea.

Top tip: they are also open in the evenings, where it becomes Huckleberry After Dark, although I’m yet to try it out myself.

7. Birch, Pusat Bandar Damansara - one for a slightly more ‘up market’ meeting, Birch is a popular spot and has a great menu from Shakshuka to burritos, to salads and of course, their own version of smashed avocado on toast - and that’s just the breakfast menu! Situated in the soon to be bustling DC Mall and opposite what will become a second Pavilion Shopping Centre, with the addition of the new MRT line, this whole area will be unrecognizable in the coming years. A sister to Huckleberry, you can also expect delightful baked goods to boot.

8. Coffee In Common, Common Ground, Mont Kiara and Damansara Heights - Recently making Mont Kiara as its newest home, Common Ground’s co-working spaces are a great place to meet and work from, especially with their cafes, Coffee In Common. With great wifi and a good amount of plug sockets in a buzzing entrepreneurial environment, this place is a winner.
