Being pregnant doesn’t mean you have to let your fitness levels drop. On top of staying fit, prenatal yoga has many other benefits including reducing stress, increase strength of muscles needed for delivery, improving sleep and decreasing the aches and pains related to being pregnant
Here’s a round of of yoga studios in KL that offer classes suitable for you to during your pregnancy. All the prenatal yoga teachers at these studios have been specially trained and there are various packages available.
B Studios
This gym is unique as it’s run by mothers for mothers, so you can be sure that classes offered focus on fitness issues affecting pregnant mums, the period after giving birth and overall fitness. The venue is very kid / family-friendly which is a big plus and their pregnancy safe yoga sessions teaches mental centering and focus, as well as stretching and strengthening.
The class is done at a relaxed pace and is a good introduction to yoga if you’ve never done it before. There’s also a Baby With You yoga class for mums and babies aged six weeks till crawling.

Prana Yoga KL
With their tagline of ‘Yoga For Everyone’, Prana Yoga offers a wide variety of yoga classes including Hatha, Flow and Yin for beginners to experienced practitioners. Their prenatal yoga classes are best for those who have passed their first trimester and led by qualified prenatal yoga teachers.
Postures are modified so you can stretch safely as you go along with attention given to pelvic toning and building up strength. Another important aspect these classes focus on is breathing, which will be very useful when giving birth naturally. There’s three prenatal classes on average per week with weekend classes being popular so make sure you book in advance.

Omology Yoga
Located in Bukit Damansara, this yoga studio touts itself as a community of yoga lovers and teachers; and offers a variety of classes aimed at both absolute beginners and experienced practitioners.
Their prenatal yoga sessions last an hour and are standalone classes which you can attend anytime during your pregnancy provided your doctor has approved. Focus in on muscle toning (especially those used in birthing), improve stamina and relaxation techniques for both mind and body.

Surya Yoga
Surya Yoga has a number of studios across the Klang Valley and have many different sorts of yoga classes plus pilates and fitball. Post and prenatal (13th week and above) yoga classes are held throughout the week at various studios and there are prenatal yoga workshops specifically for couples.
This workshop teaches postures, breathing techniques, relaxation and awareness for the soon-to-be parents so they are prepared for natural birth. Postnatal classes emphasise poses to help a new mother regain fitness levels and deal with postpartum aches and pains.

Upward Yoga
Founded by Ninie Ahmad, a leading yoga practitioner, prenatal yoga classes here last 90 minutes and are recommended for expecting mothers with or without previous yoga experience. The emphasis is on the the organic properties, i.e. to increase energy and teach relaxation techniques to cope with pregnancy and birthing.
For those with previous yoga experience, there’s also Hatha Vinyasa and Ashtanga basic classes. After birth, sign up for the Yoga Bootcamp, which has been designed for mums looking to get back into shape targeting the stomach, arms, legs and butt. You can bring your kids to this class as there’s a play area to keep them occupied while you get back in shape!
