Chinese New Year is also known as the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, this is one of the most important Chinese holidays and certainly the longest. It is defined as the first day of the first month in the traditional Chinese calendar and is a holiday that honors household and heavenly deities as well as ancestors. 

This year, we enter the year of the rat, twelve years after it’s last rolled around. During this celebration, people get together with family and share blessings and abundance with loved ones. They forget about work and school and instead watch the sky light up, exchange large sums of money and indulge in a ton of food.
