Essential oils may be causing a stir in the beauty scene, but let's take a step back and take it back to the old school with natural oils that have been used for centuries. These oils have proven time and time again how amazing they are, having been used by different cultures all over the world through the ages.

Chances are you may already have two or three of these oils at home. Find out which one of these oils we've listed might just end up being your favourite beauty essential.

Coconut Oil

The coconut has been hailed for its many uses; not just for beauty but health as well. There's no denying its fantastic qualities and its endless list of benefits. Coconut oil is packed with vitamin E, fatty acids, and protein. You can use it as a body oil to soothe dry skin, as a moisturiser or makeup remover for your face as it not only cleans but also keeps your skin soft, as a hair mask to keep the hair healthy and encourage growth, or even apply some on your cracked lips to remove the dead skin and make your lips supple again. A bottle of organic coconut oil can go a long way for your daily beauty regime as it takes very little to get the optimum results. I absolutely swear by this oil.

Olive Oil

Chances are you'll have a bottle of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) somewhere in your kitchen for your healthy cooking. With its high levels of vitamins and minerals as well as being rich in antioxidants, it is said that EVOO can help with ageing skin and wrinkles. It rejuvenates as it helps skin cells regenerate. Its uses are similar to those of coconut oil, however it is a personal preference of scent, texture and of course, budget as well.

Argan Oil

Used for centuries as it is known for treating skin infections, rashes and also bug bites, argan oil has now become a prominent must have in any pharmacy as it's incredibly sought after for its beauty benefits. Rich in vitamins A and E, this oil works effectively as a moisturiser for both skin and hair. It not only helps soothe inflammation, it also nourishes the skin while doing so. As for hair, a drop of two combed through your hair helps keep the frizz away. It's on the more expensive end in terms of pricing, but a little really does go a long way.

Sesame Oil

Sesame seeds are widely used in Indian cooking but its oils have become a staple for beauty. Used in a lot of Ayurvedic medication remedies to combat viruses, this oil has the ability to heal skin, combat acne and also reduce scarring. It is rich in antioxidants and is absorbed easily into the skin, working its magic from the inside out.

Almond Oil

This mild oil is great for sensitive skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, due to its hypoallergenic properties. It essentially moisturises, hydrates and reduces signs of ageing. Almond oil is known for erasing UV damage and stress with ease. Packed with vitamin A, it not only calms down acne flare-ups but also keeps the skin plump and firm. Do however take into consideration the amount used to avoid clogging of pores as that could lead to problems for your skin.
