These products claim to help with a variety of skin issues – from oily to dry skin, to wrinkles to open pores, just to name a few, and of course, acne.

Acne is a widespread problem that can sometimes be mild and only last a few years, or it can be extremely painful and be with someone for their entire lives. Not only does acne cause discomfort, but it can also cause psychological damage.

Glowing skin doesn't come from a bottle, and there’s not usually one simple fix to get rid of acne and other skin problems. The skin is a complex organ that requires care, love, and attention.

Here’s a look at four ways you can achieve naturally glowing skin while helping to improve or banish your acne.

Improve Your Diet

The food you put into your mouth is as important to your skin as any other organ in your body. In fact, your skin is your biggest organ. Eating the right kind of diet should be a priority when you’re attempting to improve your skin care. Choosing nutritious foods over the processed and refined types will be extremely beneficial to your outer beauty, as well as your overall health.

Switching out a bottle of soda or juice for a simple drink of mineral water will do wonders for your skin. Not only does water keep you hydrated but your skin will be grateful for the break from sugar as it can help cause wrinkles and early ageing.

Research Beauty Products

The beauty aisle of a store can leave you feeling overwhelmed due to the vast amount of choices on offer. Most beauty products, especially mainstream brands, will make big promises that don’t always live up to the hype. It’s worth doing a little bit of research before loading up your cart full of lotions and potions. Figure out what type of skin you have, whether it's oily, dry, combination or sensitive.

It’s a good idea to search for beauty products which contain as many natural ingredients as possible. Many products are packed full of harsh chemicals which can do more harm than good. Your skin is tough, but some of these chemicals can end up reaching your bloodstream due to absorption.

Cut Out Gluten

Gluten can be a real health risk for some people. If someone has a wheat allergy or celiac disease, digesting gluten can cause internal abnormalities. It can even be life-threatening, depending on how bad the allergy is.

Gluten sensitivity is more common than celiac disease, and can cause bloating, headaches and even mental fatigue. Acne can be another side effect of gluten due to its inflammatory nature. Research has shown that dairy and sugar are also linked to acne and other skin problems.

If you want to find out if gluten is contributing to your acne, try and eliminate it from your diet. You could trial this for a couple of weeks and keep a daily photo record. If you see a positive change by the end, gluten may be the culprit. It’s a good idea to try and add gluten back into your diet after the trial, to see if it causes a flare up. This is a good indicator that you may need to consider giving it up for good.

Trust Nature

A visit to the dermatologist or your doctor can often result in a prescription for a strong smelling facial scrub or medicine. As with so many other medications, they can often lead to side effects which can be worse than the problem you first started with.

The concept of using nature as a remedy is becoming far more common in modern society. If you can utilise a plant or vitamin which doesn’t pose any risk and is affordable, it may be worth trying this method first.

Many people are turning to a humble bottle of apple cider vinegar to tone their skin and treat acne in the process. It has excellent anti-bacterial properties and regulates the pH levels of your skin. Another inexpensive and easy method is to rub the inside of a banana peel over your acne or sensitive areas. While it might seem a little odd, banana peel has anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants which will be absorbed by your skin.

Everyone’s skin is different and what works for one may not work for another. Research is starting to show the importance of diet, and the damage toxins cause both internally and externally. You need to consider the whole picture if you want to achieve beautifully natural skin.
