If there's anything we've learned in the last two years, it's that there's nothing more important than the gift of good health. It's in good health that we can begin to fully appreciate the things that bring us joy - whether that's finally being able to go for a run outdoors, sharing a meal with loved ones or simply taking a moment out of your day to relax and reflect.

Feeling joyful is a beautiful experience, emotionally and mentally. It warms our heart with feelings of inner peace and contentment. Joy also promotes a healthier lifestyle, helps fights stress and pain, boosts our immune system and supports longevity.

Compared to happiness, joy tends to be a stronger emotion. Unfortunately, as we grow older, we start to lose our sense of joy bit by bit. Remember how ecstatic you felt when the ice cream man drove by your street while you were playing on the fields as a kid? Good times! But don’t worry, as adults who are striving in this hectic world, there are still ways of reviving these feel-good emotions with a few simple tips.

Here are 5 presents to give yourself to reignite that joy you deserve, this holiday season and the days after.

Be present and live in the moment

Being present in the “here and now” is about being aware and mindful of what is going on at the very moment. It helps you to feel less anxious and keeps you grounded and connected to yourself and everything around you.

The simplest way to find joy in everyday life is to take things slow. It can take the brain a few seconds to process your surroundings and this could ultimately affect your thoughts and mood. Slow down and take a moment to bask in the morning sunshine, savour every sip of your coffee or feel your bare feet in the grass. Slowing down allows your heart, mind and body to recognise the little pleasures in life.

Get Rid of Self Limiting Beliefs

If you feel like there’s a force stopping you from getting or doing what you want, then try writing out those negative beliefs. Verbalise and rationalise them. Once you accept the fact that these beliefs are a fear of yours, you can start replacing them with new positive beliefs!

When you’ve set a new belief for yourself, don’t forget to always compliment your journey with positive affirmations. Here are some affirmations that I personally love and have always worked for me:

  • “I’ll never know if I never try”

  • “Everything works out in the end”

  • “I can do whatever I set my mind to”

Remember (and be grateful for) those good times

While living in the present is key, remembering special moments from the past also promotes joy. The holiday season is the perfect chance for you to look back at all the wonderful times you’ve spent with your loved ones. Get cozy and pull out that dusty old photo album!

Some pictures will make you cringe, others will make you laugh. Most will take you on a trip down memory lane. At the end of the day, this simple yet fun activity will surely put a smile on everyone's faces.

Allow Time for Passion

Even if you’ve got your hands full with responsibilities and daily tasks to achieve, set off time regularly for activities that you are truly passionate about! Purposeful activities like reading a novel, playing music, dancing or doing arts and crafts are therapeutic. They also sharpen your mind with new skills and abilities and can boost your overall well being.

Finding joy in things you love is a great way to get to know yourself better. While it might sound counter-productive, taking time off to just enjoy yourself helps improve your productivity and makes life more meaningful.

Do Good For Others

Studies show that random acts of kindness can have more positive effects on the giver compared to the receiver. For every good deed that we do for others, the ‘reward centre’ of our brains releases ‘feel good’ hormones like dopamine and serotonin - which boosts physical and mental health as well as reducing stress.

It really doesn’t take much to truly make someone’s day. The key to showing kindness is sincerity. So the next time you’re out doing some errands, try to compliment someone’s outfit, send a message to someone special in your life, pay for the next person’s coffee, send sweet treats to your neighbours or simply ask about their day! These small acts of kindness will definitely bring joy to someone’s day, including yours.

Regardless of what is going on around you, you can feel more joyful, accomplish your goals, and enjoy yourself during the process. And you don't have to wait for it! In the end, it's all about your perspectives and outlook on life, which you have all the power in the world to change. Shift the way you think and what you decide to focus on, and watch your life quality increase. These simple tips are a great start.

The season of gifting is here! Spread joy and good health to everyone on your (nice) list this year. Starting 17th December, save up to 30% and get a FREE gift with every purchase!
