Looking for your next great read? Look no further! We sat down with PurelyB co-founders Stephanie Looi and Jesrina Arshad to get the scoop on their favourite page-turning books.

1. When You Want to Change Your Outlook

Steph Recommends: Think and Grow Rich by Ben Holden-Crowther and Napoleon Hill

“I’m a strong believer of the idea that the universe is here to give what you ask for, but I never grasped the concept behind how and when the universe will bring what you desire. This book talks about the seven principles that hold the power to change your life completely—and give you a totally new outlook on the way you think.” -Steph

2. When You Want to Nourish Your Body with Delicious Food

Jesrina Recommends: Deliciously Ella: Awesome Ingredients, Incredible Food That You & Your Body Will Love by Ella Woodward

“Deliciously Ella is such an inspiration to me! I discovered her and her amazing gluten-free, plant-based recipes back in early 2015 and was furthered inspired that she was able to overcome her long-term health condition—postural tachycardia syndrome (which greatly affects the heart rate and digestion)—through a change in diet and lifestyle, defying doctors. It is thanks to Ella that I was first able to learn how to clean up my diet easily and cut out processed foods, gluten, dairy and egg without giving up the type of meals that I loved—desserts, chocolate cakes, burgers, pizzas! I did make alterations to most of her recipes though to tailor for my Asian tastebuds!” -Jesrina

3. When You Want to Revamp Your Morning Routine

Steph Recommends: The 5 AM Club by Robin Sharma

“Waking up at 5 a.m. structures my overall day. I hope you will join the 5 a.m. club and be more productive than ever!” -Steph

4. When You Want to Ignite Your Entrepreneurial Spirit

Jesrina Recommends:  Zero to One by Peter Thiel

“I would recommend any new entrepreneur to read this book—the insights and lessons learned were invaluable to me when starting PurelyB. Peter Thiel draws on his experience as the co-founder of PayPal and software company, Palantir Technologies, to share how companies can engineer radical changes to create and grow remarkable businesses that shape a better world. The most successful and disruptive businesses in the world—Apple, Facebook, Google—achieved success by creating something fundamentally new. They moved from 0 to 1. He elaborates on how startups work, and on the kind of mindset you need to become a successful startup founder. This book is worth reading—and re-reading!” -Jesrina

5. When Your Want to Overcome Distractions in Your Life

Steph Recommends: Carpe Diem: Seizing the Day in a Distracted World by Roman Krznaric

“This book offers a perspective on how one can incorporate not one, but all five of the different “seize-the-day” interpretations into our current lifestyle. It raises questions on how we spend (or waste) our time and resources in pursuits that do not enhance our enjoyment and appreciation of all that life has to offer.” -Steph

6. When You Want to Feel Empowered

Jesrina Recommends: Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell

“A fun and entertaining read that will change your perspective as to what makes the brightest and most successful high-achievers like Bill Gates, Mozart, The Beatles, etc. different to everyone else who failed to reach their potential, and the complexities behind it. You may not agree with his radical views, but it will make you think differently and feel hopeful and enlightened on how with talent, hard work and persistence, you can shape your future the way you want to. This to me was a great beach book!” -Jesrina

7. When You Want to Reset Your

Steph Recommends: Clean Slate: A Cookbook and Guide: Reset Your Health, Detox Your Body, and Feel Your Best by Martha Stewart Living

“Eating healthy can be so finger-licking good! And this books makes it simple for anyone who wants to reset or hit that detox button anytime. It has menus for a three-day cleanse and a 21-day whole-body detox that is easy to follow and implement into your daily routine.” -Steph

8. When You Want to Be More Present

Jesrina Recommends: The Power of Now by  Eckhart Tolle

“One of the most eye-opening books I've found on spiritual enlightenment. It may not be an easy read for people not yet on a spiritual journey or those who aren’t open to meditation, etc., but it’s primary focus on the concept of being fully (consciously) present,  living in the NOW and what that can do for you in your everyday life will have messages and insights that will stick with you even long after you’re done. There are some really great insights into presence, peace, mindfulness and acceptance. It's definitely the kind of book I would recommend reading if you're feeling down, demotivated or looking for encouragement and hope. Read it with an open mind and you might be pleasantly surprised by how your perspective on the world changes for the better.” -Jesrina

9. When You Want Some #GirlBoss Inspiration

Steph Recommends: Becoming by Michelle Obama

“Family, love, education, commitment to hard work, listening and trusting your own voice are all themes in this book. This incredible account shows how one incredible woman overcame obstacles to rise above the negative with grace and poise.” -Steph

10. When You Want to Expand Your Knowledge of Ancient Asian Healing Traditions

Jesrina Recommends: Health & Beauty from the Rainforest: Malaysia Traditions of Ramuan by Professor Gerard Bodeker

“ When I first met Professor Gerard Bodeker, I was fascinated by his vast knowledge in the ancient healing traditions and special rituals of Malaysian herbalists, healers, and shamans drawing on the mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and other indigenous cultures resident in Malaysia. His book teaches us about the healing properties of our local tropical plants and herbs from our rainforest, and how they were used in medicine, cooking and for beauty & spa treatments over past generations, before modern medicine and processed ingredients and foods came into our lives. A good read and especially a good refresher for local Malaysians and Asians. You’ll be surprised at how powerful some of our local tropical herbs and traditions are, ones that are underrated and likely not even known to you until you read this book! Best of all, you’ll likely feel inspired to want to go back to these ancient traditions, find these herbs and remedies, and incorporate them into your daily lives for improved overall wellbeing.” -Jesrina
