The sad truth is that cream-based desserts, which are made from dairy products, are generally unhealthy or, if you follow a vegan or lactose-free diet, inedible.
So what do you do? Do you give up on creamy desserts, even though they are just so delectable? Or do you look for an alternative? If you chose the latter, then let me introduce you to cashew cream!
Cashew cream is healthy, delicious and vegan-friendly. Containing copper, manganese, magnesium, zinc and phosphorus, cashews help you to lower blood pressure, improve cognitive ability and reduce the effects of migraines, amongst other benefits. A little bit of cashew cream every now and then can actually be good for you!
It’s a really simple recipe, so you don’t really have any excuses not to try it out! Use cashew cream in place of dairy cream for a healthier version of delectable desserts!
- 1 cup cashew nuts (soaked for minimum 4 hours or overnight)
- ¼ cup filtered water
- Dash of salt
- Fresh vanilla or vanilla extract (optional as per your liking)
- Cacao powder (optional as per your liking)
Blend all the ingredients together until smooth and creamy. You may add more water depending on the consistency you’re after.
