Nutrition and Well-being during Covid-19 recovery - The Natural Route (Part1)

How much time have you spent over the past 3 years researching “how to prevent Covid-19?” or “How do I take care of myself when affected with Covid-19?”. With the number of cases increasing daily in Malaysia and the new variant Omicron affecting people, we still have to “take care” of our bodies internally. Being infected with Covid-19 is always scary whether or not we have comorbidities. The first and natural reaction for any human when it comes to recovery is what food can we eat or give someone who is Covid positive. We always tend to look for natural ways to recover as this does less harm to not just our body but also to our minds!

2 Important Vitamins! C & D!

You may have been reading, listening and maybe even talking about Vitamins especially Vitamin C. Vitamin C is vital for your immune system, connective tissue and heart and blood vessel health, it is also antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. According to a report published by the Shanghai Medical Association, high dose IV Vitamin C may improve lung function in hospitalised people with COVID-19. In numerous animal studies, Vitamin C has prevented and alleviated viral and bacterial infections. Kiwi, Papaya, Apple, Guava, Pineapple, Rosehip Tea and Berries are high in Vitamin C and should be consumed to support the immune system when you are Covid-positive.

Natural Vitamin C

On the other hand, Vitamin D is equally important. Sunlight is the main source -- your skin absorbs the sun’s ultraviolet rays and turns them into vitamin D. Personally, I do make it a point to get some sunshine between 7:30am to 8:30am and it has not only improved my immune system but reduced stress levels and improved my skin. Vitamin D is also important for our bone health, but it is also very crucial to maintain a healthy immune system.

One study found that people with low levels of vitamin D had a 7.2% chance of testing positive for COVID-19. Another found that high levels of vitamin D might lower your risk for severe COVID-19 infection. But another report suggests higher levels of vitamin D don’t lower risk of viral infection, hospitalization, or severity of COVID-19.

Probiotics are live microorganisms that are intended to have health benefits when consumed and may help give your immune system a boost and inhibit the growth of harmful gut bacteria.
