On January 28th we usher in the Chinese New Year of the Fire Rooster. While it might seem that the year of the Fire Monkey 2016 brought us much to reflect and action on, this new year sees our journey continuing further as according to Astrology and Feng Shui consultant, Susan Levitt, the arrival of the Fire Rooster (or Fire Phoenix) marks a year of transformation, rebirth and dedication to our work, families and ourselves. Fire Roosters are known for their meticulous planning and are said to be very perceptive, trustworthy and posses a good sense of judgment.
So let’s see what lies ahead for us this year.
Waste not, want not
The Fire Rooster, just like its friends the Snake and Ox, is thrifty and good with money. Ensuring that your money and wealth is properly handled and managed this year will come into focus. Take steps this year to spend your money wisely, don’t live beyond your means and prioritise your purchases.
Tip: Consider downsizing by donating or recycling old or unused items in your home, look into starting a zero-waste lifestyle, scout the Web for travel deals when planning your holidays.
Your health is your wealth
It will be important this year to place emphasis on staying active and engaging in positive activities for our overall wellbeing and health. The Fire Rooster correlates to the Western zodiac sign Virgo, which symbolises health, healing and rebirth. If you’ve been waiting for a time to start a new gym membership, redesign your eating habits or begin a yoga practice, then this is the year to do so!
Invite prosperity into your home
According to Feng Shui, the main area in your home to place attention on this year is the living room. As this room is the first one in your home and that of the Fire element, it’s a major ‘yang’ room. Accent it with a brightly coloured eye-catching object in red or purple hues to invite positivity, love and activity into this space. If all your walls at home are white, consider painting one room in a different colour such as a restful blue or green in a small room or the bathroom, yellow in the kitchen.
Tips: If you’re feeling bold, opt for a bright colour to represent Fire in your living room. Fresh flowers and plants bring great energy into a space. The Fire Rooster loves orchids, peonies, lilies, jade plant and bamboo.
Tidiness and staying organised at home and at the office calls to us this Fire Rooster year. Spend a few minutes tidying up your desk at work before leaving for the weekend or going on leave. This will please the Fire Rooster’s perfectionism and pride that they have in their work. At home, the Fire Rooster places emphasis on providing a safe, secure environment especially for children.
The year of the Fire Rooster 2017 will be a year of discipline, hard work, determination and will also focus on health, self-care, conscientiousness and healing. Take advantage of this year to start or deepen your wellness practice, taking into consideration all areas of your life – personal, home, work and social. Also encourage yourself to make healthy-living choices in your daily activities, diet and nutrition including the mental and spiritual aspects of your life, and allow the Fire Rooster to bring transformation, positivity and growth to you this coming year.
