3 Fitness Essentials To Pack On Your Next Trip

What you pack reflects what you value doing throughout your travels. Therefore, if keeping fit is something that you value, you should pack things that will help you to stay fit!
Over the last few years, I’ve continually honed my travel packing list and here are my top three essentials to pack to keep fit while on the road.
Running shoes aren’t just for running - they are a must-have for exploring concrete jungles and trekking across mountains too. They play an integral role on any trip and the pair that you pack could mean the difference between walking on clouds and... sore feet!
I used to buy the big name brands, however this always led to pronation issues, even with custom inserts.
Four months ago, I shifted over to a pair of Vibram FiveFingers and here’s my verdict - I absolutely love them! Aside from the fact that they are super comfortable and make you feel more connected with the ground beneath you, they are also smaller and lighter to throw in the luggage!
There are three things that I love about travelling with a yoga mat:
- No matter where you are, you can practice yoga and core exercises
- Bringing a mat with you motivates you to practice yoga and core exercises
- They provide the perfect surface to lie down on in savasana after a full day of exploring
I’m currently using a yoga mat that a fellow traveller gifted me while in Rishikesh and a hand-woven Tibetan yoga mat bag from McLeod Ganj. However, if I were to replace my yoga mat today, I’d probably buy something like Manduka's Eko Superlite Travel Mat. Although it’s a little on the thin side, it’s grippy and it’s light, which gives it a big tick.
You could argue that protein powder is not a travel necessity, however, it certainly becomes one if you visit a country which has a diet that lacks protein.
I for one had never encountered such a problem until I travelled through India. While thali sets were tasty, they were also high in carbs and lacked the protein required to maintain strength and muscle mass.
