5 Workouts That Don't Feel Like Workouts

I am going to readily admit that I am not a fan of going to the gym and getting my hour-long workout. I’m not a member of any gym. Instead, I get a good workout between my yoga, walks, and circuit training which I either do at home or outdoors.

Whenever possible I prefer to get my workout/play/movement through means that feel the least like a workout. Maybe there are others out there like me but are out of ideas. Well, here are five workouts for you (and hopefully new converts) that don’t feel like workouts:


Tossing around a frisbee is a great way to get in some sprinting! If you’re so inclined you can even join an ultimate frisbee league (or start one) and really get your heart pumping. With ultimate frisbee you’re running, jumping, stretching, twisting and using almost every muscle in your body! And not just that, you also have to be keen and quick thinking! What better way to engage in play than with a whole body and mind workout?


Going on a hike is one of my favourite things to do. Lately I’ve also been getting into Urban Hiking and exploring old buildings and places, as well as night hikes. Things seem so different at night. So hiking doesn’t always mean you have to leave on a far away expedition. If you want to make things a little more challenging, you can always carry weights or strap on a backpack filled with things to add some weight.

House cleaning

You might not think so, but a real good, deep house cleaning takes effort and strength. Need to move furniture to get behind that big cupboard? Do it! Cleaning the drains, mowing the lawn, trimming the trees, vacuuming, mopping, polishing; all of it adds up to a great workout! And at the end of it you have a really clean house to boot!

Playing with the kids

Have you seen kids? They’re like little energy balls. It seems they never run out of energy! Playing with kids, and I mean really playing with them (and not bringing them to a playground and letting them on the slide) is an amazing workout. Rough house with the kids, go to the pool, throw a ball around, play catch, anything. This is such a bonding activity that it won’t even feel like exercise!

Washing cars

You want a great upper body workout and a good stretch? Then instead of sending your car to the car wash, wash it yourself! Carrying water, scrubbing, waxing will add up to a great upper body workout!
